African wild dog – Print

Printed from Silvana Olivo’s original watercolour, the African wild dog (Lycaon pictus), or painted dog, is one of the most endangered mammals on the planet, with about 6600 individuals left in the wild. They are found only in some Southern African countries. Wild dogs live in large packs and, when hunting, can run as fast as greyhounds. They have been ruthlessly killed by farmers to protect their livestock, and their habitat has become too fragmented to guarantee survival from epidemic diseases.
